Polysomnographic Technologist Career Overview

In Polysomnographic Technology, the technologist performs and studies overnight, daytime, or home sleep studies (called polysomnograms) on patients with suspected sleeping disorders. Working under the supervision of a Certified Sleep Technologist or Medical Director, the Polysomnographic Technologist provides comprehensive evaluations of sleep disorders and suggests treatment plans for patients. This program is designed to prepare students for the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) exam offered through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).

With hands-on training the accredited Polysomnographic Technology (PSG) diploma program helps prepare graduates using clinical learning experiences set to teach electrode placement, patient monitoring skills, treatment of sleep disorders, PAP therapy and Servo ventilation and more. The PSG program is offered at our San Bernardino, Portland, and Grand Prairie campuses.

The PST diploma program teaches you the health science theory behind sleep studies. You’ll practice setting up and carrying out tests in our labs, then complete clinical experiences to apply what you’ve learned in real work settings.

After graduation, you will be eligible to sit for the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT international credential).
