Program Overview
Train to become an important member of the health care team — and to qualify to pursue roles in a variety of health care settings. Concorde's Vocational Nursing diploma program is designed to help you develop the skills and knowledge to pursue a career as a licensed vocational nurse (LVNs). LVNs provide basic care to patients under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians.
As an LVN, you could do everything from helping feed new babies, changing bandages in acute care, keeping chemotherapy patients comfortable during treatment, and helping older patients dress. You’ll also update patient charts and communicate important information to the rest of the health care team.
Daytime or Evening/Weekend Program Format
You can pursue your vocational nursing diploma in a full-time daytime format or part-time on evenings and weekends. Daytime students can complete their diploma in as few as 13-months. Evening/weekend students can complete theirs in as few as 20-months. The curriculum and clinical experiences will be the same.

Nursing was not my first career choice. But, when my mom became ill and I needed to care for her. It was then that I decided becoming a nurse could help me and my family. I discovered something about myself - I genuinely wanted to have a positive influence on my family and friends' health. My love for people could come through as a nurse.
The desire to help others live their best lives also drew me to teaching. I try to instill in every nursing student that they must have a heart for people. Health ”care” is about caring for others and if you are only looking to become a nurse for financial gain; then you should rethink your career choice.
While you may only be a nursing student for a short-time, learning is a lifelong effort and you have to be completely committed to wanting to see a change in the population’s overall health.
Everyday I wake up excited to help our students pursue a career in nursing. It’s an innate part of my being. This is what motivates me to push past obstacles. I maintain an optimistic mindset and believe our nursing students just need to know that someone cares. I strive to show them that I am their someone.
Career Outlook
Nurses are Key to a Health Care System
The nursing field is expected to continue to grow nationally, driven in part by projected growth in the population and aging baby boomer generation.
Growth is expected for a number of reasons, including and increased emphasis on preventive care; growing rates of chronic conditions, such as diabetes and obesity and demand for healthcare services from aging population. While people live longer, more people will retire, and this will include nursing professionals.
While the very population that needs nursing care grows, the gap in active nursing professionals will grow. A challenge that will drive additional demand for skilled nursing graduates.

These are the same job roles. The biggest difference between these two programs is the name, which varies by state. For example, in both California and Texas, this type of nurse is called a VN, while in Florida, Colorado, and Oregon, the LPN name applies. Both LVNs and LPNs work under RNs and doctors and prepare you to take the NCLEX-PN examination to gain licensure. Concorde offers LPN career training as well through our PN Diploma program.
You can complete the Vocational Nurse program in as little as 13 months. However, program length can vary by Concorde campus. Please check with an admissions advisor for program length information.
